This coming Monday 12th March we release our latest White Label Series Beer!
A beer brewed for the Simply Hops Underdog competition and our first White Label Series beer designed and brewed by new head brewer Paul Spraget.
So what is it?!
It’s a Double Dry Hopped Pale Ale designed to carry a large hop bill and showcase them in the best way possible! What that means is more malt (inc. wheat and oats) and a higher mash temperature to create a full bodied, sweeter beer. This of course helps to ‘carry’ the hop flavour and bitterness and give a lovely smooth mouthfeel.
You can expect orange citrus flavours from the Mandarina Bavaria. This is amplified by coriander seed and Cassia bark (a type of cinnamon) which contain high percentages of Linalool (the same chemical compund that gives the hops their citrus flavour). This big orange citrus is backed with a free fretless bass line of Perle and Celea which offer much lighter, lemony citrus notes. All in all a wonderfully subtle layering of hop flavour!
And the colour? Bright orange like a ‘Kurious’ mandarin Oranj. Even if someone else may have beaten us to the working title name by a week!
The yeast is London Ale III which gives a very soft and fruity ester profile, really bringing out the fruit from the hops. The assosiated low attenuation from this strain helps to create the desired mouthfeel and sweetness.
Finally the beer was dry hopped with LOADS of Mandarina Bavaria and a smattering of Perle and Celea.
Indeed, it was Double Dry Hopped, so pre fermentation and then once more nearing the end of fermentation to give two tasty layers of dry hop character, the first soft and juicy, the second a more raw hop flavour!
The beer was split between kegs and bottles so ask around, and see what Curious Orange you can find!
