We’ve known Sam from Boxcar, one of London’s smallest small batch breweries (for now) for a little while, as a South East London resident he’s been a visitor to our Tap Room many times over the last four years. It turns out he’s even closer neighbours with Paul, our head brewer.
And so it was that the two of them got together over several beers in Stormbird down the road in Camberwell, and decided they should definitely fuse their skills to make a beer together.
Paul has made many a wonderful pale ale in his time at Weird Beard, Mad Hatter, Fourpure and now with us. And as everyone knows, Boxcar have made some of the most aromatic and tasty pale ales around over the last year or so, particularly those super low abv. beers!
White Label Series 023 is just that, packed full (so full, the accountant had to be sent on gardening leave this month) of big big hops and down at just 2.9%, so, with a little nod to Magic Rock we called this beer a Micro IPA.
We used a chunk of oats to create that signature smooth body along with our favourites Weyerman Pilsner and Carapils with Citra and Hallertau Blanc doing the work in the kettle. The wort was fermented with New England and Windsor yeast strains to get the most from the gorgeous hop bill. More Hallertau Blanc and Citra as well as Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, Enigma and Simcoe, were utilised over four separate dry-hop additions at various stages of fermentation and conditioning to create by far the most heavily hopped beer Orbit has ever produced!
Think fleshy tropical fruit and white grape over a wonderful smooth body with balanced bitterness. Kegs and cases will be available directly from us or nationwide on Eebria from Monday 24th September!
